Wow. I want a Vera in my life.
This story is hilarious, sad, heartwarming, and healing. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would.I was needing something different from my typical reads and I picked this one from a Goodreads reading challenge list. I was expecting a quirky amateur sleuth mystery, and while it is that, Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice for Murderers is so, so much more. I did not expect the soul-deep healing. As Vera worked to solve her case and helps to heal the people around her, she healed me a little bit, too.I also listened to the audiobook and Eunice Wong truly brought this story and the characters to life.

Very sweet, fun read
I've read several "heavy" books lately and needed a heart-warming, fun read. This book fits that description perfectly. Several interesting characters come together around the alleged murder of one person. The story has mystery and intrigue while at the same time being humorous. The main character, Vera, is charming in only the way a bossy grandma can be! You will fall in love with and cheer for these characters throughout.

Cozy Mystery With an Asian Twist
When Vera Wong's stumbles a dead body in her tea shop , she is determined to find the murderer and bring him or her to justice. Because she is distrustful of the lack of police's investigation, Vera decides she needs to investigate. She is the perfect character to solve this mystery.I loved the plot, characters and wasn't sure the killer was until the last pages. I'll be seeking out more of Jesse Q. Sutanto's books and highly recommend her to fans of cozy mysteries.

good read - R rating for language
R rated- foul language. Fun story and plot with clever twists. Neatly tied up all the threads in the narrative. Interesting thoughts on cultural/ social structure, ageism, baggage that we all carry from childhood, our inner voice accuracy, etc. My only complaint are the multitude of F-bombs. Why couldn’t an author as good as Sutanto have found a better way of voicing shock or conveying anger?

Quick read but annoyingly one-dimensional characters for the most part
I had a really hard time with the heavy handed, one-dimensional characters. I stuck with it because it was for book club and it had a sweet ending but I won't be reading the follow up stories.

heartwarming and charming
This book is a wonderful read. I enjoyed it immensely. It was very well written. I could visualize the characters easily. I would love nothing more than to go to San Francisco and have a lovely cup of tea with Vera. Maybe I could help her solve a murder …..,lol

Absolutely Wonderful!
This book was everything I had hoped for! And I have been waiting a while to read it. Vera is so fun and quirky and the cast of characters had amazing chemistry. A well-done, lighthearted story that I am so glad to see has more to come! I am not ready to leave Vera’s world 🫶🏼

Funny
This was a good read. Vera is funny and loveable. The way she brought everyone together was clever. It was well written that I'd read the next book in the series.
